42.5 million Americans Will travel for Thanksgiving, AAA says
More Americans will be on the move this Thanksgiving than in 2010, over 42.5 million, as forecast by the AAA.
This number is a 4% increase over the 2010 total of 40.9 million.
Of this number, 38.2 million or over 90% will travel by road to their destination.
Despite an increase in airfare, air travelers will also increase this Thanksgiving to 3.4 million or a 1.8% increase from the previous year.
“As consumers weigh the fear of economic uncertainty and the desire to create lasting family memories this holiday, more Americans are expected to choose family and friends over frugality,” said Bill Sutherland, vice president, AAA Travel Services.
In the grip of the 2008 recession, 37.8 million people traveled for Thanksgiving, so the new numbers indicate a strengthening economy, while still below the historical average.
Will you be traveling this Thanksgiving and if so, how far?
